Coming to FLEFF is this coming week, is the innovative Andrew Lowenthal. He is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of EngageMedia, one of my favorite new media projects out there. It is a non-profit media, technology and culture organization that serves as a platform and tool for independent filmmakers, video activists, technologists to distribute their work. Their goal is to create social and environmental change by challenging injustices and presenting solutions.

Lowenthal will be speaking and hosting a workshop today at Ithaca College in Job 161 from 4:30-6:00 pm. In addition, he will be hosting a free event on Saturday at 12:00 pm.

For me, he will challenge the realm of documentaries by opening up politically contentious and informative dialogue. Using EngageMedia’s Indonesian and Papuan shorts I expect to see a whole new world of independent films and documentaries.
