American Dissonance Concert

Blog Posting by Alexis Lanza, Film, Photography, and Visual Arts '15, Enfield, CT

Hockett Recital Hall was filled with an array of guests; students, black t-shirt clad members of the FLEFF staff, community members, families, and more. Caution tape was draped around rails in a hue of orange reminiscent of Halloween.

Ithaca College President Thomas Rochon began with an introduction, and then we were off. I had never experienced a multimedia concert before. I found myself being sucked into the archival film footage of our nation's history, accompanied by piano renditions of "Make Our Garden Grow." The juxtaposition of the film and music gave me an experience I won't soon forget.

I really enjoyed listening to the music while watching those old footages. All the performers were amazing. I especially like Professor Dawn Pierce's performance. Her voice resonated so well in the hall and the way she moved across the hall and cut those tapes has really engaged the audience.
