Scholarship Name Description
Dr. Justin Alexander Scholarship Awarded to a deserving physical therapy major to help defray the costs of the last year of study. Financial need is not a requirement. Created to honor Justin Alexander on his retirement in 1986 after 28 years of service to the College.
Arkell Hall Foundation Scholarship Awarded to students showing outstanding academic ability in the Departments of Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology or in programs in community health education, therapeutic recreation, and health policy studies.
J. William '33 and Jane S. Bagley Memorial Scholarship Awarded to outstanding students in clinical health studies/physical therapy.
Angeline M. Bantuvanis Scholarship Awarded to an undergraduate with demonstrated financial need who is majoring in health education and physical education.
Professor Wayne Blann Scholarship for Summer Internships Awarded to a student pursuing a degree in sports management or sports media, this scholarship provides financial assistance to a student who has a summer internship in either field. The internship must be credit bearing. The recipient must be in good academic standing, with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Preference is given to candidates with demonstrated financial need.
Ellen Marie Blodgett '65 Memorial Scholarship Awarded to a physical therapy student with demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to a student pursuing a second career or to a student who interrupted his or her academic career for personal reasons and who has returned to complete a degree. The scholarship was generously established by Ellen Marie Blodgett through her estate.
Emmett Boldt '60 Scholarship Awarded to a student in the clinical health studies/physical therapy program. Established by friends and family in memory of Emmett Boldt.
Ray Boone Scholarship Awarded to a student with outstanding academic performance and demonstrated financial need who is entering the final year of the doctor of physical therapy degree program.
Philip James Butterfield Scholarship Awarded to juniors or seniors in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance who exhibit outstanding performance and citizenship. Preference is given to students who plan to pursue teaching careers. Established in honor of longtime professor and head football coach Jim Butterfield.
Robert J. Caliel '54 Scholarship Awarded to a student entering the senior year in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance. Eligible students must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and be recommended to the dean by their department chair. Preference is given first to students residing in Tompkins County, then to those from surrounding counties, and finally to other New York State residents.
Fred H. Dalaker '31 Scholarship Awarded to a student majoring in physical education.
Jack H. Dembow '77 Scholarship Awarded to a student majoring in health policy studies and/or health care management who has both the desire and capacity to assume a leadership role in the administration of health programs, facilities, and/or services. Candidates must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated financial need.
Robert L. Driscoll Scholarship Awarded to a junior in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance who has a commitment to academic excellence, a grade point average of at least 3.0, and demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to students from rural areas of New York State.
Duncan Hines Nutrition Scholarship Awarded to students with minors or concentrations in nutrition who are in good academic standing. Established by gifts from the Duncan Hines Foundation.
Jami Erlich "Sunshine" '99 Memorial Scholarship Awarded to an outstanding junior or senior majoring in physical education or health education and physical education who has shown a commitment to community service and who has demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to female candidates. Established in 2010 in memory of Jami Erlich, her parents' beloved "Sunshine."
Charles A. Frueauff Foundation Scholarship Awarded to outstanding students in the Departments of Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology or in programs in community health education, therapeutic recreation, and health policy studies.
Martha M. Kelsey Endowed Scholarship Awarded to an outstanding sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in physical education (teaching) or health education and physical education (teaching) who has demonstrated financial need.
Susan Brokaw Kimmons Memorial Scholarship Awarded to a senior in occupational therapy for the fifth year of study. The student must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to a student with an interest in hand therapy.
Professor Karl K. and Marjorie Klein Endowed Scholarship Awarded to sophomores, juniors, or seniors in the Departments of Exercise and Sport Sciences, Health Promotion and Physical Education, and Recreation and Leisure Studies who show outstanding academic performance and expertise in the basic sciences.
Dean William B. Koch Endowed Scholarship Awarded to a senior in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences. The student must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and provide evidence of scholarship activity in professional organizations and/or academic research in areas relating to exercise and sport sciences. Financial need is not required. Established in memory of Dean William B. Koch by family and friends.
Elizabeth C. Lane '36 Endowed Scholarship for Physical Education Awarded to an outstanding undergraduate or graduate student majoring in physical education who demonstrates achievement and promise in the field as well as financial need.
Richard and Helen Lyon Memorial Scholarship Awarded to students in the Departments of Exercise and Sport Sciences, Health Promotion and Physical Education, Sport Management and Media, and Recreation and Leisure Studies who plan to pursue careers in teaching. Established by gifts of alumni and the family and friends of Coach Dick Lyon and his wife, Helen.
William A. and Fern N. Lyons Scholarship Awarded to a student in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology who has superior academic ability and demonstrated financial need.
Stephen Mosher Sport Studies Endowment for International and/or Experiential Learning Awarded to students majoring or minoring in sport studies who have demonstrated significant financial need and who will be participating in an international and/or experiential learning experience, including independent study, for a semester or less. Established in 2008 in honor of Professor Stephen Mosher by the Stephen P. McKenna family.
National Rehabilitation Medical Network Scholarship Awarded to a full-time graduate student in the Department of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Eligible students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 and demonstrate outstanding clinical performance. Financial need is not a requirement.
Jack W. Novin '38 Scholarship in Physical Education Awarded to an outstanding student majoring in physical education who has demonstrated financial need. Established by his daughter Fredi, a retired physical education teacher, in loving memory of her father, Jack W. Novin, who was a very concerned, active, and proud alumnus.
Nancy L. Olsen Endowed Scholarship Awarded to women who are New York State residents and currently majoring in physical education. Established by Nancy L. Olsen '65 to honor her parents.
Phi Delta Pi Memorial Scholarship Awarded to a deserving female student in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance who demonstrates academic excellence, exhibits leadership on campus and in community activities, and shows financial need.
Physical Therapy Endowment Awarded to outstanding seniors and fifth-year students in the clinical health studies/physical therapy program.
Physical Therapy Leadership Scholarship Awarded to an outstanding graduate student in the Physical Therapy program who has a grade point average of 3.5 or higher; a history of leadership in the program, institution, or community and potential for leadership in the profession; and demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to African American, Latino, Asian American, and Native American (ALANA) students. Established in celebration of the career and retirement of Professor Michael A. Pagliarulo.
Plus One Scholarship Awarded to a full-time junior or senior in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences majoring in athletic training, clinical exercise science, or exercise science. Eligible students must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, be recommended to the dean by their department chair, and provide a résumé and letter describing their career goals and commitment to the health and well-being of others. Merton J. '35 and Helen Roberts Scholarship Awarded to students with demonstrated financial need in the Departments of Exercise and Sport Sciences, Health Promotion and Physical Education, Sport Management and Media, and Recreation and Leisure Studies. Established in memory of Merton J. Roberts by family and friends.
Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson '70 Endowed Scholarship Awarded to a senior or graduate student in speech-language pathology who is interested in speech clarity and how it can be improved by working with muscle-based therapy. Financial need is not required.
Charles F. Saxton '51 Scholarship Awarded to a junior in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance who shows outstanding academic performance.
Cecelia Shimer Endowed Scholarship Awarded to an outstanding graduate student in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology in memory of Cecelia Shimer. Financial need is not required.
Gutenstein/Silvershein Family Endowed Scholarship for the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance Awarded to an outstanding student in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance who has demonstrated financial need.
Chester S. Southwick Scholarship Awarded to a student in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance. Preference is given to physical education majors who plan to pursue careers in teaching. Established in memory of Chester S. Southwick by his son.
Tioga County Home Bureau Scholarship Awarded to a deserving student majoring in therapeutic recreation or occupational therapy. Preference is given to therapeutic recreation majors. Financial need is not required.
Brian Truhn '69 Scholarship Awarded to a student in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences, Health Promotion and Physical Education, Sport Management and Media, or Recreation and Leisure Studies who plans to pursue a career in coaching.
Arlene Makransky Wolff '57 Endowed Scholarship Awarded to an outstanding student majoring in physical therapy. Preference is given to those qualified students who plan to pursue a career in pediatric physical therapy. Financial need is not a consideration.
