Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is a complicated law and it is critical for supervisors to understand the basics in order to be able to properly handle FMLA requests, questions and issues that may arise.
FMLA provides eligible employees up to 12 workweeks of unpaid, job-protected leave, during a 12 month period, for the birth and care of a newborn, adoption or foster care, or any serious health condition of the employee or certain family members.
Ithaca College policy requires that staff use Paid Time Away (PTA) before being placed on unpaid leave.
