In brief, candidates for departmental honors may apply during their junior year. Acceptance into the departmental honors program requires an overall GPA of 3.0 and a 3.50 GPA within the major, proficiency in at least one foreign language, and approval of the department faculty. Upon acceptance into the departmental honors program, students will take an honors tutorial or independent study during the Fall semester of their senior year, and write an honors thesis to be submitted at the end of the Fall semester. Honors will be granted only to those students receiving a B or better on the thesis project. Full guidelines for departmental honors may be obtained from the department chairperson.
