The Speech and Debate Team puts in an impressive Fall

Fall 2014 Highlights

  • Traveled the most students to most tournaments ever (busiest fall schedule ever!!)
  • First place finishes at Ohio State and St Anselm College
  • Outreach – providing assistance to students at Ithaca High School. The high school team has competed at four tournaments this fall with hopes of success at the state championships.
  • Representation abroad – two students competed at University of Cork in Ireland over the Thanksgiving break and several competed at University of Toronto.
  • Captured the bid to host the 2015 North American Universities next fall. (this year’s tournament had close to 100 teams from more than 25 schools)
  • Outreach to Longview. Students performed an audience debate over the morality of selling organs for Longview residents.

For spring –

  • Several more tournaments lined up.
  • More students joining for spring.
  • Hosting our tournament – The Sydney Landon Invitational and United States Universities Novice Nationals in early February. (last year’s tournaments was attended by around 200 competitors from 25 different schools)
