Associate Professor Michael Whelan (Comm. Studies) recently learned that he has been appointed to the federal agency charged with resolving workplace disputes between labor and management.
The activities of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) are nation-wide. FMCS focuses on: efforts at labor-management cooperation; mediation of strikes, lockouts, and other disputes in the private and public sector; and providing arbitrators to parties with contract disputes.
Mr. Whelan's appointment was recommended by George Cohen, himself an appointee of President Obama.
