Performing Arts for Social Change: Augusto Boal Workshop Free and Open to All

Ithaca College and Performing Arts for Social Change, a strategic initiative of Cornell University’s Center for Transformative Action, are proud to provide a free workshop led by Laine Forman and Jamie Samowitz entitled "Theatre of the Oppressed: a Workshop in Rainbow of Desire." The event will be held February 23-24.

Founded by Augusto Boal, this grass-roots movement provides a set of tools to help see and analyze the world around us.

This two-day intensive workshop will include an introduction to the development of TO, first-hand experience in the style’s games and exercises, and an opportunity to participate in the more advanced Rainbow of Desire techniques dealing with internalized oppressions. These techniques are used in a wide array of disciplines and no prior knowledge or experience is necessary to participate. The workshop is free and open to the public, but space is limited so register today by emailing RainbowofDesireIC@gmail.com.

For those curious about Theatre of the Oppressed in general, there will be a Question & Answer session on Friday, February 22, 2013 at 4:30pm in Textor 101 on the Ithaca College campus. At the Q&A, attendees will learn about the history of Theatre of the Oppressed and have an opportunity to ask questions of the facilitators about the art form and their experience with it. This event is free and open to the community, no registration is required.
