Exploratory Peer Ambassadors and Leaders
How did you choose your major?
English has always been my favorite subject, throughout my childhood and in high school because I loved reading and writing. However, I felt pressured to pick a STEM major or a business major because I wanted to feel like what I was doing was "useful," and I wanted to be successful in my career. I decided that I should just major in what I truly loved, and that success would follow from there.
What was your favorite resource to use when you were an Exploratory student?
My favorite resource to use as an Exploratory student is the degree evaluation on homer connect. This is such a helpful tool because it tells you the exact classes you need to take in order to complete certain majors and minors. This tool kept me on track and also helped me have more realistic expectations with regards to what I could actually fit into my schedule.
What do you like most about the Exploratory program?
The Exploratory program allows students to operate in an environment of uncertainty. This is an essential skill in life. It erases the stigma associated with the word "undecided," and instead creates a welcoming environment where students can be themselves and explore what truly interests them.
What is your biggest piece of advice to other Exploratory students?
My biggest piece of advice to other Exploratory students is that it you should never be ashamed that you don't have it all figured out yet. Be patient with yourself and everything should fall into place from there. Learn to accept uncertainty.
What extracurricular activities are you involved with on campus?
I am the Farm Coordinator for IC Intercambios, where we teach ESL to migrant farm workers in the Ithaca area. I sing soprano in campus chorus, and I work at the library cafe serving coffee.
