How did you choose your major? If you are still Exploratory, how are you working on choosing a major and what choices are you considering?

Deciding on a major was quite the process for me. There reaches a point where you haae to stop obsessing over what other people think your major should be, and other stereotypes and fears that you have about just pursuing the thing you love. My major chose itself when I realized which classes I enjoyed going to the most, and what I would talk about most outside of the classroom.

What was your favorite resource to use when you were an Exploratory student?

The ability to take all different kinds of classes my first few semesters at IC was extremely beneficial. I did not feel trapped to one path, rather I could understand what subjects fit me very well and what topics and classes I did not have as strong of an interest in pursuing.

What do you like most about the Exploratory program?

What I like most about the Exploratory program is the community that it creates. Going into college undecided can be so intimidating, and I know it definitely was for me. However, once I got to Ithaca and found out that there were other students like myself, being major-less was not that scary anymore. I've met some of my best friends and some of the most interesting people on this campus because of the Exploratory Program.

What is your biggest piece of advice to other Exploratory students?

Breathe. (!!!) Not everyone in this program finds their major at the exact same time, and just because someone's exploration is shorter than yours, does NOT mean you're doing anything wrong. Trust the process and know that you're running your own race, and you're not in competition with anyone else.

What extracurricular activities are you involved with on campus?

I am a DJ for both radio stations on campus, WICB and Voice of Ithaca College (VIC), as well as the Music Director for VIC Radio. I am an A&R Representative and a Songwriter for our student-run media production company CollegeTown Records, I write for a student-run online publication called Passion Project, and I also work as a President's Host Tour Guide! I love being involved in extracurriculars, and being involved on campus is definitely something I strongly recommend to any Exploratory major trying to find a career path/major. Sometimes what you learn outside the classroom can lead you to your passion!
