Professional Excellence Award in Sport Media

From the time my mom read to me in the bathtub when I was three years old, I’ve had a fascination with words and how they’re arranged on the page. Having the ability to combine that love of words with my love for sports was my basic motivation to enroll in the Sport Media program here at Ithaca College. However, the classes I took here opened my eyes to so much more than simple reporting and boilerplate hot-take opinion writing. They taught me to dig deeper and explore the human element and ask the question, “What makes us tick?” With that question in mind, I’m ready to seek answers in the fields of newspaper and magazine writing.

I firmly believe it was the Sport Media and Management Department faculty — a diverse set of professors that one would be hard pressed to find anywhere else on this or any other campus — that fueled my transitions and prepared me for the years ahead. They emphasized finding my authentic self more than chasing a specific letter grade, and for that I’ll always be grateful.
