The past year—2015–16—was another outstanding year of faculty and student accomplishments and of continuing to embrace the excitement of transition in the department. This was the second year we offered all six years of the PT program (including summer anatomy) on the Ithaca College campus; overall, that continues to be a positive experience for our students and faculty.
Our students continue to be actively engaged across campus and within the profession. We were able to help fund six students’ attendance at the APTA National Student Conclave. This helped spark students’ interest in planning and organizing several activities, including the first ICPT Student Showcase (an event we hope will become annual). Organized by the IC Physical Therapy Student Association (ICPTSA), the showcase highlighted student activities from research to international travel. The ICPTSA also organized the annual Bomber Blitz fundraiser, which raised $735 for the Foundation for Physical Therapy Pittsburgh-Marquette Challenge. The department also assisted with travel expenses for six students to attend the 2016 APTA Combined Sections Meeting in Anaheim, California.
This past spring the department hosted our second annual Clinical Research Showcase, at which our sixth-year graduate students and faculty mentors presented their research to the campus and the greater Ithaca community.
In June we learned of the success of our two-year long reaccreditation effort. The Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education confirmed that our program is accredited until 2026, when our next ten-year review will take place.
Our faculty continue to excel in all areas of teaching, scholarship, and service. Last year, students in the theatre arts program were trained to act as patients in some of our clinical labs; this new initiative was a “win-win” experience for everyone! We look forward to continuing this creative teaching model.
In December 2014 we said goodbye to longtime faculty member Katherine Beissner. This fall we will welcome IC alumnus Michael Costello as a full-time member of the faculty.
We hope you’ll have a chance to come visit during Alumni Weekend October 7–9 (see details below about a special tour of PT facilities). Let us know if you plan to visit—whenever that might be.
All the best,
