Progressive Commentator Jim Hightower to Discuss Challenging Corporate Control at Ithaca College

ITHACA, NY — Progressive commentator Jim Hightower will present “Against the Current: How Indy Media & Activists Can Challenge Corporate Control” at Ithaca College on Thursday, Sept. 24. His 7 p.m. talk in Emerson Suites is free and open to the public. An audience Q&A and book signing will follow.

Hightower has spent four decades battling the “powers that be” on behalf of the “powers that ought to be” — consumers, working families, environmentalists, small businesses and just plain folks. He served as director of the Texas Consumer Association before running for statewide office and being elected to two terms as Texas Agriculture Commissioner.

A popular populist speaker and writer, Hightower broadcasts daily radio commentaries, pens a nationally syndicated column and publishes the “Hightower Lowdown” newsletter. His books include “Swim Against the Current: Even A Dead Fish Can Go With The Flow,” “Thieves In High Places: They’ve Stolen Our Country and It’s Time To Take it Back” and “There’s Nothing In the Middle Of the Road But Yellow Stripes and Dead Armadillos.”

The presentation is sponsored by the Park Center for Independent Media in Ithaca College’s Roy H. Park School of Communications. For more information, visit ithaca.edu/indy.
