New Associate Deans for Music and H&S
Two faculty members who had served as interim associate deans in their respective schools have now been appointed to those positions on a permanent basis. Ellen Bonaguro took over the job previously held by William Russell in the School of Humanities and Sciences, and William Pelto stepped into the position formerly held by Jamal Rossi ’80.
Bonaguro, an associate professor of speech communication, came to Ithaca in 1993. She has been a member of the All-College Planning and Priorities Committee, chair of the subcommittee to revise Ithaca’s mission statement, and the faculty representative to the Budget Committee. Bonaguro helped develop a minor in health communication and served for three years as faculty adviser to Lambda Pi Eta, the honor society of the National Communication Association; the chapter presented her with its Outstanding Faculty Award for 1999. In 2000 she received the College’s Excellence in Service Award. Her new duties include chairing the Technology Advisory Committee, coordinating the school’s admission activities, and implementing academic policies and procedures.
Pelto, associate professor of music theory since 1991, spent two years coordinating undergraduate advising for the School of Music before step- ping in as interim associate dean. He served on the All-College Committee on Academic Advising, represented the music school on the Middle States Accreditation Steering Committee, and is the current chair of the Counseling Center Advisory Committee. Pelto’s new duties include oversight of student academic affairs, administration of curriculum development, and super-vision of professional staff.
