Raquib Zaman, professor and chair of finance and international business, was featured in Global Finance magazine, which cited his expertise in Islamic banking practices. Commenting on whether or not Islamic financial institutions will seek expansion into Latin American markets, Zaman said, “The only way that Islamic finance would be supportable in any particular Latin American country would be if the people of that country think their existing financial institutions are not providing the type of services they want, and that Islamic banking might be an appropriate alternative.” He believes Muslim bankers could find customers in at least seven South American countries.
