Welch To Lead Coaching Organization

Football coach Mike Welch ’73 was named the president of the American Football Coaches Association, having been elected by members attending the association’s annual convention. He is just the eighth coach from a Division III program to hold the prestigious office for the national association. He succeeds Mack Brown of the University of Texas. Former presidents include John Heisman and Bear Bryant.
Welch was also named Region 1 coach of the year for Division III by the American Football Coaches Association. He and the rest of the football coaching staff were honored as Empire 8 coaching staff of the year for 2013.
