Recommendations and Considerations

  • Back-up your files in the event of a hardware malfunction. As Ithaca College students, you have access to Microsoft Office tools including OneDrive, a Cloud Storage solution. View the article on Accessing your Files in MS OneDrive as a student.
  • For easy access to Ithaca College software applications visit apps.ithaca.edu.
  • For specialized software (Adobe, SPSS, RStudio, and more) visit IClabs.ithaca.edu.  View the Knowledge Base Article for a full list of software available
  • Review the Student Guide to IT for answers to frequently asked questions.
  • Frequently check your Ithaca email (Outlook) for important messages from campus leadership and your instructor(s).
  • Please confirm your notifications from Sakai are enabled so you do not miss any important updates.
  • Test required tools and systems before an assignment due date. Don't wait until the last minute!
  • Use the Kaltura Personal Capture tool if you need to create a screen recording, video or audio file. View the Getting Started article on Kaltura Personal Capture Recording Tool for help.
  • While a USB headset is not required, it may be helpful to have one (or a good set of earbuds with a microphone) for courses that will be utilizing virtual classes through Zoom.
  • If you are out of the country, you will need to utilize the virtual private network (VPN) in order to access certain Ithaca College systems and tools. View the quick guide Global Protect VPN Secure Remote Access.

What if I have out-of-classroom activities, such as clinical or field placements?

Students involved in these activities should receive direction from their faculty and supervisors at clinicals or field placements. If you do not receive direction, you should contact them for instructions.
