Student Technology Advisory Council

The Student Technology Advisory Council (STAC) is sponsored by the college's Chief Information Officer and is comprised of 10-12 student members who represent a wide range of academic programs and campus affiliations. STAC members provide valuable insights and perspectives to Ithaca College IT Leadership about the comprehensive undergraduate and graduate student experience using technology at IC. This feedback informs areas for future investments, adjustments, and continued development to ensure that the college's technology infrastructure and support services provide our students with a great experience that helps support a positive experience in and out of the classroom.

Examples of some of the areas the STAC provides feedback on includes: 

  • Learning technology (LMS, related learning applications) 
  • Technology support services for students 
  • Addressing the digital divide (providing technology for students in need) 
  • Student experience using college applications  
  • WiFi coverage, issues, expansion (including ResNet)  
  • Classroom AV experiences 
  • Information security 
  • Development and deployment of IC mobile apps and portals, including apps.ithaca.edu 
  • Data privacy, use of student data 
  • Experiential learning and mentoring opportunities 
  • Innovative technology development and exploration (VR, Makerspace, etc.) 
  • Technology related events such as Ed Tech Day, Esports events, etc) 
  • ...and more... 

Meetings

The council meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM.  Meetings are held primarily in person.

Dates for the Spring 2022 semester:

  • Wednesday, March 2
  • Wednesday, April 6
  • Wednesday, May 4

Apply

Student Technology Advisory Council members are selected via an application process and need to meet the following requirements:

  • Enrolled as a student while serving on the STAC
  • Be able to serve for two consecutive semesters (with the exception of the initial group – who will serve for the Spring 2022 semester and the following full academic year unless they are graduating in May 2022)
  • Be available on the first Wednesday of each month from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM and able to attend meetings in person.
  • Attend orientation to be held virtually prior to the first meeting.

Appointments will usually be made during the month of April for the following academic year. Freshmen appointments will be made during September.  Appointments to the initial STAC will be made in February 2022.

Membership:

  • One STAC member will be appointed by Student Government Council
  • One STAC member will be appointed by the IT Student Services Manager from the IT student employee team
  • The remaining 8-10 appointments will be selected by the IT Senior Leadership Team based upon the responses to the application, and with a goal to obtain a broad representation from the campus community.
