Ithaca College Alumnx Read for Spring Writes Festival

By Eric Machan Howd, May 12, 2021

Come hear IC alumnx Eric Machan Howd (Class of 1990 and IC Assistant Professor), Bridget Meeds (Class of 1991), and nicole v basta (Class of 2010) read their poetry on Sunday, May 16th, from 4:10 - 5:10 pm, during the Spring Writes Festival.

According to a 2014 Cornell Daily Sun article (“Rising Number of Graduates Choose to Stay in Ithaca,” Zoe Ferguson), “the number of Cornell graduates who stay in Ithaca after graduation — either for further degrees or careers — has nearly doubled since 2007, according to the Economic Impact Report released by the Office of Budget and Planning earlier this month [2014].” That was 2014 and in 2021 most of us who live and work in the Ithaca area know how much the city has grown in seven years. Part of that growth includes students who decide to make Ithaca their home after graduation and draw inspiration from its environment.

Students Who Stayed is a creative writing reading by three Ithaca College students who made Ithaca their home after graduation. Local poets Bridget Meeds (Class of 1991), nicole v basta (Class of 2010), and Eric Machan Howd (Class of 1990) will share their poems and stories. Themes will include living in Ithaca and Tompkins County. Each reader will read for 15-minutes, leaving time at the end for discussion and Q&A.
