Welcome to a New Intercom

By David Cameron, July 1, 2021

The IC web team is very pleased to launch Intercom in its new home today. The URL is the same and your recent content is still here, but now it is all being delivered with the modern responsive layout and features used on the rest of our website. We're excited to finally bring these improved designs to Intercom and provide you with better options for sharing your own news with the campus community.

What's Changed?

You will find all of the most recent posts from Intercom have been migrated over to this site with the new designs applied, while older posts will be preserved located in our static Intercom Archive.

Going forward, all new Intercom posts will be created and edited here, using the same Drupal content management platform as the rest of the college website.  If you've already been editing content on Ithaca.edu you'll be right at home – but don't worry if you haven't. Even if you've never edited a web page before, the process of contributing a post is as simple as logging in and filling out a form.

If you've been a regular contributor to Intercom in the past, you will likely notice some features and options have changed. Because we've moved to our Drupal platform, there are certain kinds of content that work differently than the old system, and there are other features that we just don't have available in Drupal yet. You can learn more about some of the new features of Intercom Posts in our knowledge base.

The differences compared to the old system may be a little startling at first, but we're confident you'll find the new editing options and improved performance make contributing to Intercom easier and faster than before. And please remember that even this version of Intercom is not expected to remain this way forever. We'll soon be taking a more comprehensive look at the role Intercom plays in our campus community as communication platform and learning more about what may be needed in a modern, long-term solution. You can read more about this on our web team blog.

A special thank you to all our partners and stakeholders who helped us get this launched, including Katie Sack, Danica Fisher, Dave Maley, and Elyse Nepa for their valuable input and testing.

We hope you enjoy the new look and feel of Intercom. If you have any feedback for the web team, we encourage you to use our feedback form to share your thoughts.
