SEE 2021 Summer Summit Starts This Week!

Join us this week for the Student Employment Enhancement (SEE) Summer Summit!

The Student Employment Enhancement (SEE) subcommittee of the Experiential Learning Alliance is pleased to present the 2021 Summer Summit! This is a week-long, virtual conference designed for supervisors of student employees at IC. The dates are July 12th-15th at 2pm and 3pm each afternoon, via Zoom.

The schedule of presentations is below:

Monday, July 12th:

2pm: Summer Summit Kickoff:

Not "Just a Job!"

Cheryl Rotyliano, Interim Director, Career Services

We know students are developing career-readiness skills with student employment! Students don’t always draw these connections for themselves unless we help them. Utilizing the framework of NACE Career Competencies, we as supervisors can help propel the students we care so much about into a successful future. This session will provide reflection, assessment, and conversational activities you can use with your students to help them tell meaningful stories about their campus jobs.

Disclosure

Omar Stoute, Title IX Deputy Coordinator, and Linda Koenig, Title IX Coordinator

Using an interactive case study, participants will walk through the Title IX process from initial disclosure to Title IX report.  Participants will learn how to receive reports of Sexual Misconduct and why working with the Title IX Office is about supporting community members and their right to an education and work environment free from sex-based discrimination.

Tuesday, July 13th:

Leveraging Microsoft Office 365 With Student Employees

Sherman Cahal, Business Productivity Specialist, and Lisa Efing-Guida, Business Productivity and Applications Manager, Information Technology

This session will provide an overview of Office 365 applications and services that can be leveraged to enhance your student employment program. Learn more about Microsoft Teams, Planner, Forms, To Do, and OneNote. See how areas on campus utilize these remote tools to communicate with their student employees.

Get an overview of the hiring of student employees including the overall process as well as using the Recruiting Cloud.

Wednesday, July 14th:

2pm: Lightning Round (3 topics total)

Manage Student Work Schedules With Microsoft Shifts

Sherman Cahal, Business Productivity Specialist, and Lisa Efing-Guida, Business Productivity and Applications Manager, Information Technology

This session will demonstrate how Microsoft Shifts can be leveraged to manage student employee schedules. Microsoft Shifts is an online scheduling tool that allows students to view work shifts and request shift swaps or changes, and managers to manage and approve schedules.

How the Co-Curricular Transcript Can Help You and Your Student Employees!

This quick and helpful session will help you learn about the IC Co-Curricular Transcript (CCT) and how you can use this meaningful tool to help you select great student employees, and provide them with experiences that they can add to their personal CCT, too. Clery Act Compliance

Elyse Nepa, Clery Act and Crime Prevention Coordinator

The Clery Act is a federal law that requires the institution to disclose campus safety and security policies to the community. The Clery Act also requires us to train campus community members on the Clery Act and how to report incidents and crimes that occur on-campus or in other areas identified by the institution as campus property.

A list of qualifications sometimes appears on a student position description. What happens when an applicant may not have the desired qualifications? Could they be coached and mentored on the job? This presentation will discuss potential barriers to student employment, and how reframing the process may create new opportunities.

Welcome to Progress: The Campaign for Student Success

Elizabeth Bleicher, Presidential Fellow for Student Success, Marketing and Enrollment Strategy

This session is an introduction to Welcome to Progress, a campaign designed by and for students to enhance academic success and personal satisfaction in college using concepts derived from educational psychology. The goal is to develop mutually reinforcing language and practices for students, staff, faculty and especially student workers to change the culture of our campus to one fostering self-advocacy and strategic, planful intellectual and personal challenge.
