Exciting News from Intercollegiate Athletics and Philanthropy and Engagement

By News, September 21, 2021

Dear Campus Community:

We are pleased to share exciting news that was announced here on South Hill a short time ago.

At a briefing for members of the news media, we officially announced that the 2022 Cortaca Jug football game will be played at storied Yankee Stadium in the Bronx and that Alumni Homecoming Weekend will take place for the first time in New York City. The annual rivalry match against SUNY Cortland will be the centerpiece of what is sure to be an epic Nov. 10-13, 2022, weekend for our students, families, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of the college.

Members of the New York Yankees organization joined us here on campus to make the announcement and proclaim they are rolling out the “pinstriped carpet” to welcome the Ithaca Bombers and Cortland Red Dragons to the Yankee Stadium lineup. They noted that it was observing the success of the 2019 Cortaca Jug game at MetLife Stadium that inspired the Yankees to extend an invitation to play the 2022 contest at the home of the legendary Bronx Bombers.

Most importantly, we want all members of the IC family to be part of this remarkable event, just as they were in 2019. We will engage and empower the entire campus community through innovative, experiential learning activities that take advantage of the distinctive New York City setting. We’re so fortunate that a “once in a lifetime” opportunity is coming twice—because here at Ithaca College progress never stops.

You can find information about ticket sales and other details in our news release and watch an online replay of today’s big announcement. For more information and regular updates on the 2022 Cortaca Jug and IC Alumni Homecoming Weekend, please visit www.alumni.ithaca.edu/Cortaca22.

2022 Cortaca Jug apparel is already available in the IC campus store. So, let the battle in the Bronx officially begin! Go Bombers!

Sincerely,
