A Summit of Hope: Fostering Happiness

Are you in need of SLI/Career Connection credits? Are you interested in developing leadership skills that promote happiness in your work and social environment? This year's leadership summit will be focused on the topic of fostering happiness within yourself, others, and the world. Following a time of great tension due to Covid-19, now is the time to focus on what brings out the best in yourself and those around you.

The event will include a number of guest alumni speakers who will present on their experience with finding happiness throughout and post college. We hope that from this summit, you will take the courage to strive for what makes you feel happy and fulfilled.

Speakers:

Lou Magrone (Keynote)

Lou Magrone obtained his Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Ithaca College, after practicing for a few years Lou decided to switch careers and went into medical device sales. He quickly became the number one salesperson for a Fortune 500 company in their Spine Division. After ten years managing a team of reps, Lou recently joined another Fortune 500 company as a Director of Market Development in the Strategic Growth Division. Lou has pursued other endeavors outside of the medical device world such as obtaining a New Jersey General Contractor’s license, starting a 501c3 charity with his wife called Walk In Sunshine, and also is actively involved as a partner in the horse racing and breeding business. Lou actively serves on the board of 2 other charities and is a member of many other organizations in the community. He played football all 4 years at Ithaca College and is an active alumni giving guest lectures to current students. Lou currently resides in Westfield NJ with his wife and two young sons. 

Erica Shockley

Erica Shockley has dedicated her career in higher education to supporting students and family members through their college journey. She is now serving local high school students and family members navigating their pathway into college. Coordinating a non-profit, access to college program, allows her to connect students to the resources that will help them succeed in college and cultivate resiliency in life. Erica is also a yoga facilitator, managing a business that connects local organizations to yoga and mindful practices.

Alexander Perry

Originally from a small town in Maine, Alex (he/they) graduated from Ithaca College in May 2020, where he studied sociology and Spanish. As an undergrad, he played on the Varsity Golf Team and was a strong advocate for LGBTQ athletes through his involvement with Student Governance Council and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He is currently a PhD student at UAlbany and hopes to further study inclusion of transgender athletes. Outside of school, Alex enjoys exploring the great outdoors and playing sports, watching the Red Sox beat the Yankees, and solving Rubik's Cubes.

Mary Kate Fain 

Mary Kate Fain is a feminist writer, activist, and engineer. A class of 2014 IC alumna, she got her start in activism as President of the student mental health awareness organization Active Minds. Since then, she has worked with multiple women-centered organizations such as the Advocacy Center of Tomkins County, YWCA, the Clery Center, and the Women's Liberation Front. Today, she is the founder of multiple feminist iniatives with a focus on creating platforms to empower women across the globe to fight back against male violence and oppression without censorship. 

Kayli DePinto

Kayli is a recent 2021 graduate; who earned her degree in Television-Radio with a minor in Live Event, Design, and Management. She currently works in casting for unscripted television programming where she helps people through their journey in finding new adventures whether that’s looking for love on a reality dating show or helping someone realize a life goal with the assistance of lifestyle experts. 

Jason Dove

Jason serves as the Executive Vice President, Sales Manager at Platinum, Inc.  As part of the organization’s leadership team, Mr. Dove is responsible for overseeing the sales and operations of the company as well as development and expansion through hiring new personnel and managing client relationships.  Mr. Dove brings a wide array of experience to Platinum with his management expertise and focus in business development, marketing, and building services. Prior to joining the Platinum team, Mr. Dove was the Senior Vice President of Palladium Window Solutions for 5 years and has served as Principal of Bio-Bright NY, LLC from 2007 to 2010.  Earlier in his career, Mr. Dove held the role of Vice President of Control Building Services, New York, and also worked as Branch Manager and Director of Marketing for American Building Maintenance, Co. (ABM) over seven years.  Mr. Dove earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Ithaca College. He is an active supporter of numerous charitable organizations such as The Hamilton- Madison House, MDA, The Race Against MS, Florina Rusi-Marke Cancer Foundation and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
