By Evis Sammoutis, December 1, 2021

Compositional residency with Alinéa Ensemble (2-3 December)

Alinéa Ensemble (a Boston-based collective of musicians dedicated to the music of living experimental composers) will be in residence at Ithaca College from 2-3 December. They will give a public concert on Thursday, 2 December at 8.15 at Hockett Family Recital Hall, followed by a full day of workshops, masterclasses and readings of recordings of new works, written especially for them by Ithaca College composition students (Studios of Ithaca College Professors Jorge Grossmann and Evis Sammoutis).

After meeting as students at New England Conservatory, Alinéa has gone on to work with such compositional visionaries as Richard Barrett, Chaya Czernowin and Michael Finnissy, During the pandemic, Alinéa launched “Everything But The Kitchen Sink,” a virtual interview and performance festival designed to provide frequent and engaging content to a wide audience free of charge. Their composer interviews are not only discussions on music: they’re documents of the state of composer-performer collaboration and creative work during the early months of the Covid-19 pandemic. EBTKS was nominated for a 2021 Royal Philharmonic Society Ensemble Award. Alinéa believes in close collaboration with composers and has developed many works for their unique subset of violin, cello, bass, piano, percussion, and voice through hands-on experimentation.
