Sad News of the Passing of a Longtime Dining Employee

By David Prunty, December 3, 2021

It is with immense sadness I must share with the campus community news of the passing on Friday morning of a longtime employee, Steven Rorick.

Submitted on behalf of Scott McWilliams, Director of Dining Services

Steven spent the last 20 years bringing us joy and anecdotes from his station in the Terraces Dining Hall dish room. He started at IC as one of our Challenge Industries employees, then transitioned with the rest of us to Ithaca Dining Services.

He had a zeal for life that was apparent to anyone who got to interact with him, and I know we will all miss seeing his smile as he regaled us with tales from the great outdoors, his family, and the adventures of chasing his ever-escaping horse. He also loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, working around the house and garden, and working with his Ithaca College family.

Steven will be so deeply missed. Please, think of his family and reflect on the fond memories as you engage in some of his favorite activities from your tree stand, fishing hole, or planning your visit to The Glen. He will forever be a part of our dining family. Rest in peace, Steven.

We will be holding a gathering for dining services staff and other members of our campus community to celebrate Steven's life and to come together in support of one another from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 7 in Muller Chapel. If you wish to participate virtually, you can do so via this Zoom link.
