Message in Response to Buffalo Hate Crime

Posted on behalf of La Jerne Terry  Cornish, President

Dear Campus Community:

By now, you have probably heard about the tragic, racially motivated attack that happened in Buffalo yesterday. Ten people were killed and three others were injured as a direct result of an unimaginable act of violence that specifically targeted people of color.

We have many students and families, faculty and staff, alumni and friends from the Buffalo area. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of you during this time of tremendous pain and sorrow.

I ask that we come together, as the strong, empathetic and resilient community we are, to do whatever we can to comfort and support those in our community who have been traumatized by yet another senseless act of hate. We are a community of care. Now is the time to show our concern for those in need. As is our practice in times of sorrow, members of our community are invited to gather in Muller Chapel at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 16.

Many thanks to each of you for being part of the Ithaca College family. You are appreciated.

Sincerely,

La Jerne Terry Cornish
President
