Study abroad SCHOLARSHIP opportunity for student leaders of color: CIEE Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship

CIEE Study Abroad, one of IC's affiliated study abroad partners, has recently opened applications for their Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship for Summer 2023.  The CIEE Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship is a four-week summer study abroad experience. Twelve student leaders of color are selected to participate in a comparative study of social justice leadership in America, South Africa, and Ireland.  The program runs July 7-August 4, 2023.

For the twelve students who are selected, the experience is almost fully-funded*, including airfareFor every eligible student who applies and is not selected, each will automatically qualify for a $1,500 scholarship that can be used toward any CIEE summer, fall, or spring study abroad program through summer 2024. 

*Frederick Douglass fellows pay for their own meals during the program and any free time activities. The award covers the cost of travel, housing, field trips, and the study abroad course.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Be a current undergraduate freshman, sophomore or junior
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.3
  • Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or permanent resident
  • Identify as an ethnicity typically underrepresented on study abroad programs (e.g. American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino or Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander).
  • Submit a complete application no later than February 14
