FESTIVALS IN FOCUS Feb 1-March 1

Festivals in Focus is a brand new five-event series of public roundtables that explore the issues and debates defining the world of film festivals and the arts and entertainment industries today as they confront the Great Reset.

Roundtables on topics of significance will explore vital and urgent aspects of the workings of film festivals through moderated conversations and Q&A with distinguished panelists from Ithaca College and beyond.

The series features five events unpacking these changes with Ithaca faculty and outside guests. All programs are at 7 p.m. in Park Auditorium

Feb 1       A Deep Dive into FLEFF
Feb 8      Public Health, the Environment, and Media Campaigns
Feb 15     Unpacking the Resets of Festivals and Theatrical Run
Feb 22    The Great Disruption:  Streaming and the Global Entertainment Industries
March 1   Live:  The Shifting Terrains of the Return to Embodied

This public series is housed within the Roy H. Park School of Communications. It is organized in conjunction with the 26th annual Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF), and its 2023 special theme of ‘Polyphonies.’ The series widens awareness about the unique cultural status of film festivals such as FLEFF and the opportunities they offer for shared community dialogue and debate.

FLEFF and the History of Film Festivals is a newly launched experiential course designed to immerse Ithaca College students within the annual Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF), which runs in the spring of each year. Students also learn about the wider world of film festivals and their key place within global film culture.

Public roundtables and visiting guests combine with intensive festival attendance and behind-the-scenes access to a working film festival. The course explores the histories, theories, and practices of film festivals, a key node in the flows of international film. It provides real time opportunities to engage FLEFF in person as a brand ambassador and intern, and to reflect on and contextualize these experiences.

The course is housed within the Roy H. Park School of Communications but is open to all students from Ithaca College.
