Fiction Film Theory CNPH 30000 offered online in Summer Session I

Fiction Film Theory provides an introductory overview to film theories and methods of film analysis.
This is a writing intensive course that surveys major critical approaches and film theories such
as formalism, realism, auteur, apparatus, ideology, feminism, race, sound, post-colonialism and more.

The class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 pm to 2:40 pm online in the first summer session.

The course studies films from Spain, Australia, South Korea, Algeria, Soviet Russia, Lebanon, United States, Iran, and more!  Modes of cinemas explored in the course include classical Hollywood cinema, international art cinemas, avant-garde, experimental and animation in feature length and short forms.

Assignments will include exams, presentation of a reading and a reflection paper, and a three-step research paper (proposal + draft + revised paper). This course satisfies the “Writing Intensive” designation at Ithaca College, which requires you to compose one or more papers totaling at least 3,000 words through the stages of writing.
