West Tower Elevator Update

Contributed by Richard Couture on 03/28/05

The south car in the West Tower elevators has been damaged and will be out of service through the remainder of this semester and graduation.

The gears and housing in the main shaft of the south car shattered and every attempt has been made to try to find replacement parts. Given the age of the elevator, no parts are readily available and it would take a minimum of three months to fabricate the parts needed. Both the north and south cars are scheduled to be entirely replaced this summer.

Staff from the physical plant department are working very closely with the elevator service contractor to make sure the north car remains operational. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this situation and appreciate your patience and understanding.
