Members of Ithaca College’s Toastmasters club are never lost for words when it comes to conveying their messages.  In fact, “verbal words” have helped this on-campus, professional development group earn Select Distinguished recognition through Toastmasters International.

Toastmasters International is a non-profit, educational organization with over 13,000 participating clubs worldwide.  Located within local communities, companies and schools, membership in Toastmasters has proven to be very beneficial to individuals who have been seeking to improve their communication and leadership skills.  Using workbook exercises and various speaking activities, members give presentations at the meetings and evaluate each other’s speeches, in a no-pressure environment.  From the use of proper grammar to avoiding the use of filler words, speakers are coached on how to improve these detailed skills as well as others to help polish their professional presence.

Now in its 10th year, Ithaca College’s Toastmasters Club has achieved the Select Distinguished level for meeting club goals within the Toastmaster year of July 1 to June 30th.  IC members collaborated as a team while working on their individual goals towards educational awards.  Seven out of the ten International club goals were met; that determined the end-of-year Ithaca College Toastmasters Club status.

Congratulations to the following IC members that have recently achieved educational distinctions:

Marie Abb – Competent Communicator

Pam Ameigh – Competent Communicator

Colleen Barnes – Competent Communicator and Competent Leadership

Jane Ray – Advanced Communicator Bronze

Doreen M. Hettich-Atkins – Advanced Communicator Silver

Karin Wikoff – Advanced Communicator Bronze
