The Kitchen Theatre of Ithaca is offering a special discount to any group of 10 or more students from the School of Music who wish to attend the performance of Opus, by Michael Hollinger, which runs October 17 through November 11, 2012.

From the Kitchen Theatre's description: "A deliciously constructed and wonderfully dramatic play about a renowned string quartet. One founding member is missing, and a young woman replaces him. Filled with music and drama, this play is being produced all across the country."

Representatives from the Kitchen Theatre will be on campus to answer questions and provide general information on Tuesday, October 16, from 11:30am-3pm, in the Diva Lounge on the 3rd floor in the Whalen School of Music.

Of special notes, two performances feature pre-show lectures by School of Music faculty, and two members of the production are alumni of IC:

  • November 1: Pre-show lecture. “Life as a Foursome” by Susan Waterbury, an Associate Professor of Violin at the Ithaca College School of Music.
  • November 8: Pre-show lecture. “Trust and Respect: The four way marriage of a professional string quartet” by Nicholas DiEugenio, a violinist and Assistant Professor of Performance Studies at the Ithaca College School of Music.
  • Jesse Bush '95 plays the role of "Alan."
  • Tyler M. Perry '12 is the Scenic & Lighting Designer.

Kitchen Theatre Offers Group Discount to School of Music Students Comment from henderso on 10/17/12
Very generous of the Kitchen, but I wish the discount were not limited to School of Music students--we have many other students who are deeply interested in music, theatre, and human interaction, and this seems to me to reinforce boundaries between schools and the ways in which students view themselves and each other.
