Hospicare and the Ithaca College Gerontology Institute are co-sponsoring the Hospice Foundation of America spring educational program on “Improving Care for Veterans Facing Illness and Death.”

Although the program is aimed at professionals, it is open to all, and is appropriate for anyone in the community who is interested in the topic of veterans’ end-of-life care. You or your loved one do not need to be using veteran services to attend.

This program assists end-of-life care provider organizations and health and human service professionals to enhance their sensitivities and understanding of veterans. It also provides professionals with new interventions to better serve dying veterans and their families.  Attention is placed on veteran generations now aging and most likely to be seen in end-of-life care (WWII, Korean War, Vietnam). In addition, the program looks organizationally at military benefits and intersections with VA systems and will explore the traditions and sensitivities of grieving families and resources that can assist them.

Hospicare will host this program and will facilitate a panel discussion with local experts involved in providing support to veterans. This program open to the public. There is no fee to attend; however, there is a small cost if participants wish to receive continuing education (CE) credits and/or to purchase the companion book. Please register by April 23, by calling 272-0212 or emailing Melissa Dunham ( When you register, please indicate whether you will be registering for CE credits.
