November is American Diabetes Month!

We have all heard of diabetes: in today’s society, there are constantly new studies coming out that show the increase of diabetes in our country. But how can you prevent it, and how do you know if you are at high risk of developing it? There are several risk factors associated with Type II Diabetes:

  • Extra Weight
  • Inactivity
  • Advancing Age
  • Family History
  • Too much/too little sleep

If you fit into any of these categories, you may be at risk for diabetes. Be sure to get active, eat well, and check in with your doctor regularly to stay healthy!

For more information on diabetes risk factors and prevention, check out these links:

Also! Join us for the following November Mission Series Workshops to learn more about diabetes!

November 14th – HR Conference Room, Peggy Ryan Williams Center:  Starting at 12pm, Denise Dolinsky from Aetna, will be sharing the ways that Aetna can help with managing diabetes for you and/or your family as well as what Ithaca College’s medical insurance covers in relation to diabetes.

November 19th – Terraces Food Lab:  Starting at 2pm, JJ Molina, IC Dining Services Executive Chef, will demonstrate how to prepare healthy and delicious meal options for diabetics and the whole family!

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Katie Sack at or (607) 274-1208. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
