The new dean of the Ithaca College School of Business is a veteran leader. Sean Reid, currently associate dean and associate professor of finance at the Quinnipiac University School of Business, will assume his new position on July 1.

In addition to his academic career as a teacher and administrator, Reid is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy who has spent the past three decades as an officer serving the country on active duty and in the reserves.

"Sean Reid brings to the position a record of outstanding leadership both in academia and as a Naval officer,” said Linda Petrosino, interim provost and vice president for educational affairs. “He has achieved effective change during a time of challenge for higher education generally and business education specifically. His successful experience in the development and implementation of innovative programs, including interdisciplinary programs, will serve to support our educational mission. I am excited to welcome Sean to Ithaca College and look forward to working with him as part of the academic leadership team.”

Reid joined the faculty of the Department of Finance at Quinnipiac in 2007 and was named associate dean of the business school in 2012. In that role, he serves as executive director of the Financial Technology Center and director of Freshman Business Programs, and heads the Graduate Programs Division. He had also served as director of the university-wide Academic Integrity Board.

In addition to leading the school to its recent reaccreditation by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, Reid helped develop a 3+1 B.S./M.B.A. accelerated degree program. He is a member of the editorial board of the journal American Business Review.

“I am thrilled to join the Ithaca College community and have the opportunity to work with the dedicated faculty and staff in its School of Business,” said Reid. “I could not be more impressed with their commitment to students and enthusiasm about the future of the school. In my meetings with students and alumni, it is obvious that there is something special about the Ithaca College experience. I am incredibly optimistic about the direction of the school, and I can’t wait to get started!”

Reid earned a B.S. in politics from the Naval Academy, M.B.A. from Incarnate Word College and Ph.D. in finance from Rhode Island University. He previously taught at Salisbury University and the University of New Haven, and has professional industry experience as an investment advisor and securities analyst with Integrity Global Asset Management.

A Captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve, Reid currently serves in a number of management and advisory roles with the Office of Naval Research. He previously held administrative, training and research positions at the Naval War College and Navy Center for Personal and Professional Development. While on active duty, he served as a Naval Flight Officer and Aircraft Mission Commander during numerous overseas deployments — including Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm — and was a flight instructor.

Reid succeeds Mary Ellen Zuckerman, who in 2014 was named provost and vice president for academic affairs at the State University of New York College at Brockport. James Simpson has served as interim dean for the past year.
