The Office of International Programs (OIP) would like to invite all faculty and staff members to attend a workshop designed to assist in the development of short-term study abroad programs.  Short-term study abroad programming is an important component of the overseas study options available to Ithaca College students. College faculty and staff members have successfully lead programs over the past several years to a number of different locations, including most recently Belize, Canada, China, Ecuador, Ghana, Italy, Malawi, and the United Kingdom.

There will be two workshops held this semester to assist faculty in developing and planning short-term study abroad programs.

The first workshop, to be held February 6, will familiarize faculty with the program planning and development process, proposal submission, safety & security measures, risk management, best practice, as well as other relevant topics. A panel of faculty members who have successfully lead programs abroad will share their experience and suggestions.

The second workshop, to be held April 11, is being led by William P. Hoye, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of IES Abroad.  Mr. Hoye is a leading scholar, legal mind and experienced higher education administrator who regularly offers these workshops at college and universities nationwide  This interactive workshop will focus on legal and risk management issues relevant to those wishing to take students abroad for short-term international experiences.

  • Wednesday, February 6, from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Center for Faculty Excellence, 316 Gannett Center
  • Thursday, April 11, 2:00-4:00 p.m., Taughannock Falls Meeting Room, Campus Center

Light refreshments will be provided at both workshops.  Please note that these will present different information, and thus those interested in leading student groups abroad are encouraged to attend both sessions.

If you are interested in attending either workshop, please RSVP to Rachel Cullenen in the OIP at or 274-1676.

If you are interested in leading a short-term study abroad program but are not able to attend one of the workshops, please feel free to contact Rachel to schedule an individual meeting.  You can also read more about the process in the publication  Procedures for Developing and Implementing Short-term Study and Educational Travel Abroad at Ithaca College

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Penny Bogardus at or (607) 274-3306. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
