The Handwerker Gallery is pleased to be open doors for the semester with two concurrent exhibitions, AERIAL RECONNAISSANCE, and Your Margins, Your Rivers, Your Diminutive Villages.  Please join us Thursday evening for the opening reception to congratulate faculty member Carla Stetson (Department of Art) and visiting artist Patte Loper on their exhibitions from 5.00-7.00 p.m..

Aerial Reconnaissance
Work by Carla Stetson

January 22—March 7, 2014
Opening Reception: Thursday, January 23, 5.00–7.00 p.m.
Artist Talk : Wednesday, January 29, 6.00 p.m.

Following a cartographic impulse, Carla Stetson’s satellite and aerial views of the earth explore the vastness of landscape, featuring wind currents, water gyres, and polar communities. These meditative drawings reflect on environmental issues, seeking to reinvigorate a sense of connection to global natural forces.

Your Margins, Your Rivers, Your Diminutive Villages

January 22—March 7, 2014
Opening Reception: Thursday, January 23, 5.00–7.00 p.m.
Artist Talk: Thursday, February 20, 6.00 p.m.

Site-specific drawings and sculptures using surrealist automatism as a guiding principle, Loper’s work engages with local landscape as a departure point for construction of unexpected forms, exploring the intersecting terrains of landscape, utopian architecture, and bodily organism.
