About Michael McNeil

Michael McNeil is an entertainment lawyer and the head of business affairs for Weta Digital Ltd. Weta Digital is a New Zealand visual effects company, which earned five Oscars for its work on the Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong, and Avatar. In addition to these films, McNeil has done the deal work for dozens of others, including the Hobbit trilogy, the Planet of the Apes films, Iron Man 3, The Avengers, and Tin Tin. He has also been the executive producer for the children's animation series Jane and the Dragon on NBC, and was a member of the team that originated the WotWots television series.

In addition to negotiating nine-figure production deals, his experience includes virtually every element of production, ranging from talent agreements, publishing deals, inbound and outbound licensing, international co-productions and distribution, trademark issues, and cybersquatting, to a surprisingly large number of technology matters.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Michael Whelan at or (607) 274-3542. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
