Submitted on behalf of Interim Provost Linda Petrosino

Michael Yarrow, a longtime advocate for peace and justice who retired as an associate professor of sociology in 1997, passed away on June 2 at the age of 74.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 28, at 2:00 p.m. at the Third Street Quaker Meetinghouse, 120 Third Street in Ithaca.

Yarrow was active in the local livable wage and antinuclear movements while teaching at Ithaca College for 18 years. He maintained that activism after moving with his wife, Ruth, to Seattle following his retirement.  His involvements there included the Western Washington Fellowship of Reconciliation, Church Council of Greater Seattle, and Abe Keller Peace Education Fund.

In addition to Ruth, his survivors include his children Matthew and Delia.

Donations may be made to the American Friends Service Committee, 1501 Cherry St., Philadelphia, PA 19102.

A complete obituary was published in the Ithaca Journal.
