Mary Ann Rishel, Professor Emerita, Writing, recently served on a Ph.D. dissertation committee for Deakin University, Victoria, Australia.  The candidate’s subject, What’s so funny:  humour as a subversive technique in contemporary feminist literature, challenges patriarchal humour by using dialogic subtexts as a feminist political voice.  The dissertation replaces patriarchal critical theory with subversive feminist humour to establish a new literary aesthetic.
