Asma Barlas, professor of Politics, offered a seminar on Islam and feminism, including some of her own work on both, at the 17th annual session of the NY-St. Petersburg Institute of Linguistics, Cognition and Culture (NYI) in St. Petersburg, Russia, from July 15-August 2nd. The seminars are taught by invitation only with the faculty coming mostly from the U.S. and the students primarily from the Russian Federation. In all, though, sixty four countries have been represented during NYI's history. This year, the students came from thirteen, including, for the first time, Iran, Saudi Arabia and S. Africa.
