Contributed by Colette Matisco on 10/13/19

View printable version

The Women’s Mentoring Network is proud to announce the Fall 2019 Coffee Conversation Series, with topics selected and hosted by women across campus. Additional topics will be added later in the semester… stay tuned for more details.

Registration will be limited to 10 women (faculty and staff) per conversation to allow for meaningful dialogue. If there is interest that exceeds capacity, we can explore adding more dates. Additionally, if there is a new topic that you would like to host, please email Julie Dorsey (jdorsey@ithaca.edu) to discuss details.

All conversations are held at the Center for Faculty Excellence, 316 Gannett.
Registration for all events can be found here.

White Fragility (due to the popularity of this topic, 2 sessions are being offered):
September 24th, 12-1pm and October 23rd, 12-1pm
THESE SESSIONS ARE NOW FULL
Hosted by Eileen Harrington
During this women’s chat we will examine white fragility as a tool of white supremacy. We will discuss how to identify and discuss both the everyday and systemic impacts of white fragility, with a specific focus on how white people can disrupt white fragility, build resiliency, commit to accountability for themselves and others, and pursue tangible anti-racist action.

Supporting our Aging Parents and Family Members: October 15, 12-1pm
Hosted by Eileen Harrington
In this conversation, we will discuss the topic of supporting our aging parents and family members, and navigating the emotional aspects surrounding day to day care and long term planning for our loved ones.

New and Expecting Moms (due to the popularity of this topic, 2 sessions are being offered):
October 22nd, 12-1pm and November 20th, 12-1pm

Hosted by Kelly Dowd
This conversation will provide space for women who care for young children or expect to welcome a new child into their lives to come together for mutual support. The conversation will be a place to share ideas, resources, support, stores, adventures (and misadventures!) of caring for young children. Parents and guardians of all kinds are welcome.

Disability Representation in Higher Education: November 6th, 12-1pm
Hosted by Jenna Heffron
During this conversation, we will discuss disability using a minority group approach. We will discuss ways in which disability is typically represented on college campuses as well as how it is approached and represented at Ithaca College. This will also be a space to brainstorm how we might work to shift the culture on our campus from seeing disability primarily in terms of accommodation to be more in line with how we view other marginalized groups such as race and gender minorities.

Purpose of the Women’s Mentoring Network: to enable faculty and staff who identify as women at Ithaca College to connect in meaningful ways to support their goals.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Colette Matisco at cmatisco@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-3734. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
