It is with pleasure that I announce that two members of our IC community have been accepted to attend the HERS Leadership Institute in the 2021-2022 academic year.  Dr. Jacqueline Winslow, Director for New Student and Transition Programs and Jana Waller, Interim Associate Dean for the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance, were accepted to attend the intensive leadership professional development program.

Winslow has been with the College since 2013, serving as the Assistant Director of Residential Life for Residential Education and Assessment before assuming her current role as the Director of New Student and Transition Programs in 2018. Winslow has been a key participant in the College’s first-gen initiatives, has provided important insight and direction to the development of the Ithaca Summer Seminar program initiated last year, served as a goal co-chair for the strategic plan implementation, and has been an instructor in two all-college programs: Ithaca Seminars and the IC2 program. She currently serves as a member of REST--The Remote Engagement Strategy Team.

Waller, who earned her master's degree at IC, joined as a full-time faculty member in the Department of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology in 2011, and since then has served in a number of administrative capacities, including department chair, graduate chair, and—presently—as an interim associate dean. Waller’s involvement in the continued accreditation of programs in SLPA and in all-college teacher education work have demonstrated her capacity for collaborative, inclusive teamwork and leadership. She recently served as a member of the Faculty Council Executive Committee.

The HERS Leadership Institute prepares faculty and staff in higher education to develop a broad understanding of their institutions and of higher education more generally, to network with other emerging and current leaders, and to identify and design projects that can positively impact their campuses. The mentoring associated with the program aims to reduce the gender gap in higher education leadership.
