This two-hour, one-time-only craft class is available to students who select the "craft" option for their afternoon track.

This class will be an introduction to image-text. Students will play with working at the intersection of writing and visual art and seeing what happens when we put these two forms into conversation. We will be doing hands on exercises and looking at a variety of image-text work (from memes to graphic novels to photo books and video essays) to illustrate how wonderfully flexible and creative this form can be.

Katie Marks, assistant professor of writing, received her MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Goucher College. She is the writing department’s major advising coordinator and teaches Personal Essay, Intro to Essay, Autobiography, Creative Nonfiction, and Image-Text. She is always trying to learn something new and is the co-author of the headphone walking play, The Missing Chapter, produced by The Cherry Arts last fall.
