Ithaca College staff who use advanced functions of the administrative systems at Ithaca College (not the web front ends) may be using Oracle databases and advanced reporting functions. Additional computer configuration may be needed depending on what and how many of these systems are being used. This information is for:
- HomerAdmin NOT HomerConnect
- Parnassus Professional User Interface or Core App responsibilities NOT Self Service, Manager Self Service, Annual Increment etc.
- ACE and Argus
- Nolij Web
This information has been compiled from a variety of sources: Oracle (Homer and Parnassus), Ellucian (Homer), the ITS Helpdesk and user feedback from some key administrative areas including Admissions, Financial Services, Student Financial Services, ITS Business Intelligence.
HomerAdmin and Parnassus have specific Java dependencies ITS suggests using a Windows computer and Internet Explorer (IE) browser for advanced administrative systems.
Oracle recommends that if you are a Mac user, consider setting up a virtual Windows workstation and installing Office 2010. ITS can help you do this. Mac users will need to purchase Fusion but ITS can install the Windows operating system and Office applications (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) under the Ithaca College Campus Agreement with Microsoft.
Mobile devices like smartphones, iPads and tablets use a simplified web interface. These systems may not be able to provide the advanced functionality of the administrative systems.
Browsers and Java
Oracle has certified IE and Firefox (and Safari) for use with the application servers in HomerAdmin and Parnassus. ITS tests the applications against Internet Explorer.
The administrative systems rely on pop-ups. Make sure pop-up blocker is disabled in the browser.

Internet Explorer and Compatibility Mode
To prevent display issues within some pages it is advisable to run the Oracle E-Business Suite environment through IE 'Compatibility Mode'.
Adding Website to Internet Explorer Compatibility View,
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Click Tools in the menu bar. (note: If you do not see the Tools menu, right-click the title bar of IE9 and select “Menu bar.”)
- Click Compatibility View Settings.
- Type the URL into the “Add this website” field and click Add.
- Repeat Step 4 for any additional URLs
Internet Explorer and Trusted Sites
When using Internet Explorer 9 and above, this site, https://aparnapp.ithaca.edu, may need to be added to the “trusted sites”. To do this:
- Open browser window
- Go to Tools
- Click on the Security tab
- Click on Trusted Sites
- Click on Sites
- Type the URL into the area for the website url
- Click Add
- Click Close
- Click OK
Firefox and Exceptions
When using Firefox, this site https://aparnapp.ithaca.edu, will need to be added to the “Exceptions List”. To add to the Exceptions List:
- Open a Firefox browser window
- Click on Tools
- Click on Options
- Click on Security
- Click on the Exceptions button
- Enter the url into the address window
- Click Allow
- Click Close
- Click OK
