A compilation of recent news, accomplishments, and publications of School of Music faculty.

Daehn Music Publications published "The Turtle's Retort" by Frank Bridge, arranged for wind band by Mark Fonder, this summer. It was awarded a recommendation "checkmark" by Instrumentalist magazine. Additionally, Fonder was conductor and instructor at the New Horizons Band Camp in Ithaca, held in June. This organization provides instrumental music education to beginners over the age of 50.

Jennifer Haywood recently co-facilitated a presentation, "Intergenerational Music Education with Choirs and Bands," at the 2008 International Society of Music Education conference in Bologna, Italy, with Ithaca College alumnae and director of bands at Holton Arms Academy Sarah Winston.

Daniel Isbell won the 2006 Outstanding Dissertation Award presented by the Council for Research in Music Education. The dissertation, entitled "The Socialization and Occupational Identity of Undergraduate Music Education Students Enrolled in Traditional Programs," will also be published in the Journal of Research in Music Education. In September, Isbell will be traveling to Roehampton University, London, to speak at the Musical Development and Learning: Second European Conference on Developmental Psychology of Music.

Keith Kaiser recently completed research funded by the NAMM/Grammy Foundation Sounds of Learning Project entitled "Perceived Functions of Music in Public Schools: From Aesthetic to Social Implications, Why We (Should) Include Music in Public Schools." He presented at National MENC in Milwaukee and the International Society for Music Education in Bologna, Italy. The manuscript has been submitted for publication in a professional music education research journal.

Greg Rudgers has recently released four new pieces for Concert Band: "Spirits Bright," "From This Valley," "Niagara," and "Robot Madness." All are available from Carl Fischer and may be heard on the Carl Fischer website.
