How do I request Ithaca College musicians to perform at my non-profit organization event?
To request Ithaca College musicians, you must fill out the MusIC in the Community Request Form. This form is then submitted to the Community Engagement Assistant and the information is displayed on the Student Gig Database, which is open to all Ithaca College School of Music Students. If a student musician is interested in your event, the Community Engagement Assistant will contact you. Students volunteering at non-profit organizations do not expect payment.
How do I request Ithaca College musicians to perform at my privately owned business or private event?
To request Ithaca College musicians for a private owned business or event, you must fill out the MusIC in the Community Request Form. This form is then submitted to the Community Engagement Assistant and the information is displayed on the Student Gig Database, which is open to the all Ithaca College School of Music Students. If a student musician is interested in your event, the Community Engagement Assistant will contact you. Students performing at private businesses or events must be paid. Rates for student musicians are negotiable.
Can I request a specific ensemble such as a string quartet or a jazz trio to play at my private event or business?
Yes. To request a specific ensemble, check the ensemble type on the MusIC in the Community Request Form. If the ensemble is not listed, notate the type of ensemble you would like in the additional information section at the bottom of the form. Please note that the specific ensemble may not be available.
I am a School of Music student, how do I book a gig performance?
To book a performance, Log-in to the MusIC in the Community Student Gig Database. When you find an opportunity of interest, fill out the MusIC the Community Student Request Form. Once the form is completed and submitted, the Community Engagement Assistant will contact the venue directly and set up the performance. You will receive and email within three business days regarding the status of your request.
Is the gig database open to all Ithaca College students?
No, the gig database is only available to current Ithaca College School of Music students who are pursuing a degree in music. This service is to help build their professional career and gain performing experience. Non music majors can request musicians to play at their events using the MusIC in the Community Request Form.
I do not have transportation to an off-Campus gig, are there any opportunities on-campus?
Yes, there are on-campus opportunities. When searching for gigs on the Student Gig Database, select the on-campus category. Please continue to check the database for new opportunities.
Can I book a gig without using the online form?
No. We require all community concerts booked through the School of Music to be booked using the online form. If you know of an opportunity that is not listed on the database, you may book it on your own but it will not be affiliated with the School of Music.
Do the venues have pianos?
Most, but not all, of the venues have pianos. Please check the Student Gig Database to see if your intended venue has a piano available. If your venue does not have a piano, you may request a keyboard on the MusIC in the Community Student Form.
Do I need to supply my own accompanist?
Yes, you do need to supply your own accompanist. Please speak to your studio professor about available student accompanists.
Can I cancel a booked performance if I do not feel prepared?
No, you may not cancel booked performance unless you have a severe illness, if there are severe weather warnings, or if there is a family emergency. When you fill out the student form, you electronically sign an agreement that commits you to that performance. Unexpected cancellations are extremely inconvenient to all parties and reflect badly on the School of Music.
What type of musical selections are appropriate for a hospital setting?
Music that is consistently played at a loud dynamic is typically inappropriate for a hospital setting. Please speak to your studio professor about appropriate music selections.
Are these gigs paid?
No, gigs listed on the Student Gig Database are not paid. However, the School of Music receives paid opportunities throughout the school year. The more performances booked using this service, the more paid opportunities that will be available to you. You will be emailed by the Community Engagement Assistant individually if you are recommended to play a paid performance.
Where can I perform?
You can play at any of the locations that are listed on the Student Gig Database. Please log-in to see the available locations.
Can you book more than one performance per form?
No, there is only one performance per form. You must fill out a new form for each performance you would like to book. By doing this, it make it easier to track performances and get the information out more efficiently to the venues.
