The Jack Downey '55, '61 Composers Competition Award is awarded each year to the choral or vocal work by an Ithaca College student judged to be the best work in one of those media written that year. It was endowed by Mr. Jack Downey, an alumnus. Mr. Downey taught in the New York public schools for 30 years, served as an adjudicator for NYSSMA festivals, and conducted the Wells College Wind Ensemble. He has chaired and given workshops in experimental music and authored a book on instrumental music programs in the public school. He is also an accomplished composer in his own right.
