Directed by Nicholas Walker, the Period Instrument Performance Ensemble is offered each spring, and performs exclusively on period instruments tuned to baroque pitch (A415).
Ithaca College’s collection of instruments includes three harpsichords, a continuo organ, three baroque violins, two baroque violas, a G violone, and viola da gambas. Vocalists can also participate in the ensemble.
Collaboration among students and faculty is an integral part of the ensemble, and students have the opportunity to improvise and develop their ornamentation skills.
The ensemble gives a concert each spring on campus, and has performed in the community as well. The fall class in early music is a prerequisite to participation in the ensemble.
