The Program

Musicians and ensembles throughout the world are celebrating Benjamin Britten and Witold Lutoslawski's centenaries in 2013. This program features Britten's choral work Hymn to St. Cecilia and Lutoslawski's virtuosic masterpiece for orchestra, the Concerto for Orchestra. 2013 also marks the 50th anniversary of Poulenc's death, which created the opportunity to program his moving Gloria for choir, orchestra and soprano soloist, sung by Ithaca College alumna Jessica Julin (02'). The program is filled out by Ligeti's conceptually monumental Atmosphères for large orchestra (which was premiered the very same year as Poulenc's Gloria) and William Byrd's Laudibus in sanctis sung in meantone temperament.
